Homeowners are choosing to have a variety of landscape designs and features created in their front and back yards. Whether they’re upgrading or revitalizing these spaces to enjoy their homes for years to come or to prepare their homes for sale, a house’s resale value can be increased by 14% as a result.

When gearing up to put a house on the market, almost all real estate agents will recommend that sellers have their yards landscaped before doing so. In addition to increasing a house’s curb appeal, landscape design services are also able to create a more inviting outdoor living space. Chances are that prospective buyers will imagine themselves relaxing, gardening, and entertaining within these spaces.

Harris Poll conducted a recent survey for the National Association of Landscape Professionals. The results showed that 67% of people in the United States agreed that they would have a nice yard if it were professionally landscaped.

In addition to landscaping, there are other popular outdoor design elements. The “2016 Residential Landscape Architecture Trends Survey,” for example, found that these were the most popular design elements for that year:

  • Fire pits and fireplaces: 74.9%
  • Lighting: 66.6%
  • Wireless Internet connectivity: 65.8%

Since so many people enjoy spending time outdoors at night, these features can greatly enhance comfort as well as the overall experience.

When it comes to outdoor architectural structures, however, the same survey found that these were the most popular choices:

  • Pergolas: 50.9%
  • Decks: 47.4%
  • Arbors: 44.3%

The Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association found that new homebuyers were particularly interested in having patios where they can enjoy relaxing or entertaining. Water features are also a nice element for these and other outdoor areas, especially when they’re part of an extended outdoor kitchen design.

Since having a well-maintained yard is so important to many people, it makes sense to have a professional contractor create a custom design. In addition to adding plants, trees, pavers, and other features, a contractor can provide an outdoor kitchen design in keeping with a homeowner’s lifestyle and tastes. It’s easy to visualize how nice it will feel to spend time outdoors with these and other finishing touches.
